A Tribute to DeAndre Harris Bey

Good morning, family, friends, community members, and all who have gathered to celebrate the life of our beloved brother, leader, mentor, and co-founder, DeAndre Harris Bey.

Today, we come together with heavy hearts, yet with deep gratitude for having known a man whose life was dedicated to healing, service, justice, and love for humanity. While we mourn the physical loss of DeAndre, we also celebrate a life that was lived with purpose and a legacy that will continue to impact generations to come.

DeAndre Harris Bey was more than a co-founder of the Restorative Justice Movement. He was a visionary who believed that every person, regardless of their past mistakes, struggles, or circumstances, deserved dignity, compassion, accountability, and the opportunity to heal. He understood that true justice was not rooted in punishment alone, but in restoration, reconciliation, and community transformation.

His vision gave birth to a movement that continues to touch lives throughout our city and beyond. Through his leadership, countless individuals found hope when they felt hopeless, support when they felt abandoned, and purpose when they felt lost. He taught us that healing is possible, that communities can be restored, and that every person has value.

DeAndre’s work was not simply a profession—it was a calling. Whether he was sitting in a restorative circle, mentoring a young person, advocating for those impacted by substance misuse, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, or building relationships with community leaders and government officials, he approached every interaction with sincerity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to helping others rise.

Even during his health challenges, DeAndre continued to inspire those around him through his strength, resilience, and faith. He reminded us that leadership is not measured by titles but by service, sacrifice, and the lives we touch along the way.

Today, we honor not only what DeAndre accomplished but who he was. He was a father figure to many, a trusted friend, a community builder, and a man whose heart was large enough to make room for everyone. His wisdom, laughter, encouragement, and belief in people will forever remain with us.

As the Restorative Justice Movement moves forward, we do so carrying the torch that DeAndre lit. We commit ourselves to continuing the work he started, strengthening the communities he loved, and advancing the vision of healing and restoration that he dedicated his life to building. His spirit will live on through every circle held, every life restored, every community strengthened, and every act of compassion inspired by his example.

To the Harris Bey family, we extend our deepest love, prayers, and condolences. Thank you for sharing DeAndre with us. We know that the grief you carry today is immeasurable, but so too is the impact of his life. Please know that his Restorative Justice Movement family stands with you, not only today but in the days, months, and years ahead.

Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in knowing that DeAndre’s work here was meaningful and his legacy secure. The seeds he planted continue to grow. The lives he touched continue to heal. The movement he helped build continues to thrive.

DeAndre Harris Bey may have transitioned from this earthly life, but his vision, his teachings, and his love for community remain alive in all of us.

Rest well, our brother.
Rest well, our teacher.
Rest well, our co-founder.

Your work continues. Your legacy endures. Your light will never be extinguished.

With love, gratitude, and eternal respect,

The Restorative Justice Movement Family
